Emily's Essentials

A Baseball Cap

      To say baseball caps have been around for  a while would be an understatement, but only recently have they become popular in this instagram generation and can be seen being sold in a variety of colors and quirky graphic designs at online stores like Shopjeen.com and inuinu.com. However being a girl who is a sucker for nostalgia I'd highly recommend going through your dads old hat collection and see what treasures you find. For exampe the one I'm wearing in this picture. It's my dads old favorite hat which makes me love it even more because it holds such sentimental value.

A Little Black Bag
      Whether it's in the form of a cross body, tote, or a mini backpack like the one pictured, black leather bags are here to stay. Both black and leather together are so easy work with so it makes such a staple piece like a purse even more staple, because it'll go with anything. Especially a bag with such a minimal and simple structure, it can hide away all your necessities in a subtle yet classy way.

Trousers

      Not a lot I have to say about trousers or slacks or whatever you call them except that I love them and have been wearing them nonstop, even in this Vegas heat. They can help you look put together in the most comfortable way. Very breathable and effortlessly sophisticated.

A Mock Turtleneck
     I've never liked turtlenecks, the feeling of the fabric formfitting around my neck makes me feel like I'm being strangled by a murderer with very plush hands. HOWEVER I can deal with mock turtlenecks. They are just high enough to give you a mature and demure look, but low enough to give your neck the air it needs.

Styling Starlets: Alexa Chung

Why Alexa?

     If it isn't obvious, she's a mega babe that knows how to dress. She has been able to inspire many through her fashion sense away from the runway and photoshoots. One thing Alexa sometimes does and the thing I love about her is that she mixes it up. Whatever look she is going for she adds her own flare to it. Whether it's pairing overalls with flats (picture on the left) or wearing cut off denim shorts with a blazer (picture on the right) she has this rare ability to make playful and chic coincide and make it work.

My Inspired Outfit

      I have fallen in love with my moms old GAP overalls she has graciously given to me and have been wearing them non-stop this summer. Now, if you look at pictures, like the one above, Alexa has a go-to pair of overalls that she wears and styles in different ways. So I decided to utilize mine in this outfit by pairing them with dressier pieces like this short sleeve chiffon collared shirt and ankle strap heels. Giving something like the overalls that can be considered playful and casual a whole new unique look. For you to achieve an outfit like this is actually really simple. I'm not gonna tell you to go out and recreate this exact outfit even though you totally can. But what I want you to take from this post and apply to the outfit you decide to create is that you shouldn't let the categorization of an article of clothing get in the way of you wearing whatever you want in any way you want. Well, thats my 2 cents. Hope you enjoyed.

Emily's Music Monday || 06-15-2015

     Andrew has handed over Music Monday to me this week! Even though over the past couple days I've been having trouble coming up with what this playlist should be about, I decided I should just keep it simple and compile a bunch of songs that just make me happy. It seriously doesn't matter what mood I'm in, the unconventional stylings of these songs never fail to put a smile on my face and have me yell "Turn it up!" while cruising in the car with my friends. Now as Andrew would say, grab your headphones or plug in the AUX and enjoy.

Music Monday || 06-08-2015

     As you may have noticed we live in a generation that is consumed with nostalgia. Which is why for this week's Music Monday I looked to create a setlist that is strictly 90's. I think we like to look back on previous decades because authentic and raw music was best created during these times. No Doubt's "Don't Speak" is a perfect example of an authentic 90s track. Clearly this song is describing two individuals' underlying problems that cause them to drift apart. This song is extremely transparent to me because regardless of what type of relationship we may have with someone, in certain cases it is inevitable that the two will drift part. A lot of times we have trouble facing this reality and tend to subdue it into the back of our minds. Onto a less depressing note, I believe that Daft Punk's "Around The World" is infused with a techno flare, that is evident in a lot of todays chart-topping songs. For a song that is composed of only 3 lyrics, you can't deny that this song sounds as if it could have been produced today, and could truly stand for itself on this track list. Now that I've put my two cents in.. Grab your headphones or plug in the AUX and enjoy.
Until Next Time...

Music Monday || 6-1-2015

     Lately, I have been feeling that my life has being lacking a sense of spontaneity. Therefore this week's Music Monday features tracks that radiate the feeling of Wanderlust. A lot of times in busy seasons of life, we tend to neglect the opportunities we are faced with to binge watch Netflix or get just a few more hours of sleep. I am slowly coming to the realization that in just a few short months I will no longer being seeing every single one of my friends on a daily basis. Which is why the following set-list inspires me to truly make the most out of every moment, versus watching my life float by.  Now getting to my point; Stay out later than you normally would and take advantage of the moments you're given because they are only temporary. So grab your headphones or plug in the AUX and do something out of your comfort zone.
Until Next Time..

Emily Jewel's May Favorites

     May is over, school is out (for me at least), so I'm going to show you all the things I've loved this month that have helped prepare me for summer!

Beauty
  • Loreal Telescopic Mascara: This drugstore mascara is perfect if you're looking to give your lashes length. It works great if you're going for a natural look but for the days where I want to look more dramatic I find that this mascara builds up well without making my lashes look clumpy. This has been my everyday mascara since middle school so to not include it as one of my favorites would be criminal.
  • Maybelline Dream Pure BB Cream: An essential for me in this Vegas heat is a proper BB cream. After trying out many from the drugstore I've got myself a winner. The Maybelline Dream Pure BB Cream is lightweight but offers enough coverage to even out your skin tone. It also contains sun block to protect your skin. Not to mention its very affordable.
  • MAC Velvet Teddy: If you're into mauve lip colors get this lipstick. It is matte and can dry out your lips, so I suggest putting on a lip moisturizer before applying. Other then that this is a great lipstick that adds a sultry sophistication to any look you're going for.
Apparel
  • Distressed Boyfriend Jeans: Boyfriend jeans are all over the place. Go to Forever21 or H&M and you're guaranteed to find a pair. These pictured however are from Brandy Melville. Distressed boyfriend jeans add such a playful and laid-back vibe to any outfit. They're also very comfortable and perfect for those late summer nights spent with your woes.
  • ASOS Evie Ankle Boots: I got these boots for prom with the hopes that they wouldn't totally kill my feet on the dance floor and let me tell ya I might as well have been walking on clouds because these were soooo comfortable. There really isn't a wrong way to wear these simple but edgy boots and the thick heal and platform add the perfect amount of height.

Music Monday || 5-25-2015

     For this weeks Music Monday I decided to go for a more relaxed playlist.  If you need to unwind from a long Memorial Day weekend, or need to study for your new job at Starbucks (like me) this is a great playlist for you. I decided to pick tracks from artists that are traditionally mellow, such as, The Civil Wars, Ben Howard, and City & Colour. While I also decided to add songs from artists that are traditionally upbeat that showcase their softer side. Foster The People's "Fire Escape" focuses on life in LA and is a change from their melodic indie rock vibe. While some people may consider Lana Del Rey a soft artist, I believe "Yayo" strays from her usual 60's retro sound and provides more of a orchestral atmosphere. With that being said, plug in your favorite headphones or the AUX and enjoy.
Until Next Time...
