Emily Jewel's May Favorites

     May is over, school is out (for me at least), so I'm going to show you all the things I've loved this month that have helped prepare me for summer!

Beauty
  • Loreal Telescopic Mascara: This drugstore mascara is perfect if you're looking to give your lashes length. It works great if you're going for a natural look but for the days where I want to look more dramatic I find that this mascara builds up well without making my lashes look clumpy. This has been my everyday mascara since middle school so to not include it as one of my favorites would be criminal.
  • Maybelline Dream Pure BB Cream: An essential for me in this Vegas heat is a proper BB cream. After trying out many from the drugstore I've got myself a winner. The Maybelline Dream Pure BB Cream is lightweight but offers enough coverage to even out your skin tone. It also contains sun block to protect your skin. Not to mention its very affordable.
  • MAC Velvet Teddy: If you're into mauve lip colors get this lipstick. It is matte and can dry out your lips, so I suggest putting on a lip moisturizer before applying. Other then that this is a great lipstick that adds a sultry sophistication to any look you're going for.
Apparel
  • Distressed Boyfriend Jeans: Boyfriend jeans are all over the place. Go to Forever21 or H&M and you're guaranteed to find a pair. These pictured however are from Brandy Melville. Distressed boyfriend jeans add such a playful and laid-back vibe to any outfit. They're also very comfortable and perfect for those late summer nights spent with your woes.
  • ASOS Evie Ankle Boots: I got these boots for prom with the hopes that they wouldn't totally kill my feet on the dance floor and let me tell ya I might as well have been walking on clouds because these were soooo comfortable. There really isn't a wrong way to wear these simple but edgy boots and the thick heal and platform add the perfect amount of height.

Music Monday || 5-25-2015

     For this weeks Music Monday I decided to go for a more relaxed playlist.  If you need to unwind from a long Memorial Day weekend, or need to study for your new job at Starbucks (like me) this is a great playlist for you. I decided to pick tracks from artists that are traditionally mellow, such as, The Civil Wars, Ben Howard, and City & Colour. While I also decided to add songs from artists that are traditionally upbeat that showcase their softer side. Foster The People's "Fire Escape" focuses on life in LA and is a change from their melodic indie rock vibe. While some people may consider Lana Del Rey a soft artist, I believe "Yayo" strays from her usual 60's retro sound and provides more of a orchestral atmosphere. With that being said, plug in your favorite headphones or the AUX and enjoy.

Homemade Pizza

     Lately my friends and I have been really into making homemade pizza's. After going through a ton of different recipes, we've found our favorite. Pesto topped with feta and parmesan cheese. So get your squad together and try it for yourself. My friend Monica (today's chef) opted for a homemade pesto. Our friend Melody has an allergy to pine nuts, which is a key ingredient in almost all store bought pestos, so Monica replaced the pine nuts with almonds. The recipe for Monica followed was a simple one.

 Homemade Pesto
4 oz basil
2 cloves garlic
2 tbsp lemon juice
2 oz almonds
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup olive oil, extra virgin
2/3 parmesan cheese

May 20th // OOTD

Today I went for a semi minimal look with a vintage flare. Starting with the mock turtle neck crop top that gave the look a sophistication. The tennis skirt gave it a feminine touch however, its black color complimented the sophisticated tone of the crop top. Moving on to the fun part. The vibrant bomber jacket really tied the look together by giving it color and the jelly sandals really attributed to the old school aesthetic

Music Monday || 5-18-2015

     This weekend was the first weekend of my summer. I constantly found my self saying to my friends "Wait we're done with school, its summer!" This weekend was spent kicking back with friends who are back in town from college. Attending the Brandy Melville warehouse sale with some friends  while being swarmed by a ton of females (Brother Of The Year Award). As well as redoing one of my best friends Monica's room.
     Anyways for this weeks Music Monday I put together a playlist of a few of my favorite tracks right now, that will get you in the summertime mood. With that being said throw on some headphones or plug in the AUX and enjoy.

May 17th // OOTD

    Some days I forget what decade I live in, when I wake up and pick out an outfit. Today was one of those days. I rolled out of bed at 6am, got ready, and headed over to the Brandy Melville warehouse sale with some friends. I didn't plan on getting anything, but ended up scoring on a pair of super cute Levi mom jeans for $10, that I soon will be distressing and writing a post about ;) The oversized button up and wide leg trousers were so comfy and breathable while waiting in line. Although I really would have opted for some fur trimmed moccasins to give my poor feet a break from the hell that was the patent leather loafers I was wearing, but beauty is pain and the loafers really pulled the whole chic, 90's, New York business women look together

Meet Emily Jewel

     My name is Emily Jewel, I'm 15 years old and I currently live in Las Vegas. I like a lot of things, some of which include fashion, interior design, alternative music, and photogenic food. Coincidentally, Andrew likes these things too, which sparked the idea of our shared blog, Cotton and Coffee. I find beauty and inspiration in so many things but those that I refer to most are the works of Frida Kahlo, Wes Anderson, and Lucky Debellevue. Aside from finding inspiration from visual artists, I am also a music junkie who enjoys listening to a variety of artists ranging from the greats, to the up and coming, but enough about me.

     Myself (Cotton) and Andrew (Coffee) have decided to come together creatively to share our thoughts and advice on the things we love. Mine being cotton which represents fashion and his being coffee representing lifestyle. However, that does not limit either one of us to either subject. We will be looking forward to expanding on the things that intrigue and inspire us so that we might enliven anyone who wanders into our world where style has the power to rejuvenate and grammatical errors are inevitable
